The Paragon Hotel
Fugen undertook the development of Level 1 of the Paragon Hotel. This Construction Management project involved Fugen managing all aspects from council approval to engaging all the necessary consultants. Fugen managed the Design process, obtained the Construction certificate & engaged all required trade contractors.
The design and scope of the project revolved around the open roof and greenwall to create an experience of dining under the stars. This meant the scope of the project involved:
– Demolition of the existing wall, floor and ceiling finishes
– Removal of the existing roof section and structural steel
– Installation of a new steel frame to support the greenwall and support the existing façade
Due to the roof being opened, the floor had to be redesigned to be waterproof. This involved constructing a timber substrate to support the drains, membrane and new floor finishes. In addition, the existing bar and kitchen were demolished, which allowed for the installation of a bigger and better kitchen and bar Facilities. Entire new finishes were installed throughout, including extensive joinery, feature ceilings and tiling.
Due to the location of the project, materials handling was extremely difficult. The project was surrounded by the Sydney Light Rail Project. Numerous night-shifts had to be undertaken to remove demolition waste, load materials in and undertake noisy works.
The difficulties were overcome and the project was completed on time and to the Client’s satisfaction.
